Laundry Hacks |
If you decided to have a curated wardrobe that suits you and
does not harm the planet, you already know that every piece you decide to
welcome in your home is special. None of them is going to be neglected or forgotten. You
wear them all, many times a year. Your
clothes are your second skin and you are genuinely excited about wearing them
in the morning.
As a result, you probably want them to stay in your closet
for as long as possible, and here are some tricks to do it:
1. Dry your colored clothes in the shadows and the whites
in the sun. The sun bleaches the clothes and prevents them from yellowing.
2. Try to avoid loading the washing machine to its maximum
capacity. Garments are like pasta; they need to move in the water for the end
result to be satisfactory.
3. If you had to get an item dry-cleaned, remove the plastic
bag putting it back in the closet or better kindly ask to not use it at all.
Plastic retains moisture and aids the proliferation of bacteria that in the
long run can make ruin your clothes.
4. Ditch the softener. I know, it can be hard to resist the
appeal of a product that promises you softer garments that smell good. But to
do this, your clothes are covered in chemicals that are bad for you and can
lead discoloration and make the items more water resistant and therefore harder
to clean.
5. When you dry your clothes on the clotheshorse, hang them
on wooden hangers instead of laying them flat. Don’t use this hack with
knitwear.
6. Wash delicate and heavier items separately. Summer tops
and studded jeans do not get along.
7. Leave the garments out of the closet for a few hours or
overnight every time you wear them. This process eliminates the smell and it
allows you to wear clothes for several times before having to wash them.
8. Wash and dry the garments inside out. It's a small
insurance in case you make a mistake.
9. Use cold water as much as possible. It will keep your
clothes from shrinking, it is good for the wallet and the planet.
10. Take your time when you are wearing clothes or when you
are taking them of, especially if they are worn-out or low quality.
